What you get is a dark ring the diameter of the pot, sometimes with a lighter cloudy halo around it where the finish went milky.
The Two Kinds of Mark
A white or cloudy mark is moisture trapped inside the finish, and that one sometimes responds. A dark or black mark is water that reached the wood and reacted with the tannins in it, and that goes as deep as the water went. No cleaner reaches it, and no coat covers it, because it is in the board and not on it. Bleaching it out is a refinisher's job with oxalic acid and a sander, and even then the result is a patch that never quite matches.

We clean the surrounding floor properly, which usually reduces how much the eye picks the ring out, and we coat the whole room evenly. If the mark is the cloudy kind, there is a real chance of improvement. If it is black, we will tell you it is staying before we take your money, and then we will suggest a rug or a piece of furniture, because that is the honest answer.

A plant caddy with wheels, or a plastic tray inside the decorative saucer, and a piece of cork or felt lifting the whole thing a quarter inch off the boards so air can move under it. Then move the plant twice a year whether it needs it or not. It takes a minute and it is the difference between a floor with a story and a floor with a permanent black circle in the good room.

A reasonable one. Cloudiness is moisture held in the finish and it can sometimes be drawn out or reduced during cleaning, then hidden further by an even coat. No promises before we see it.
