The Cheapest Fix Is Not a Product
A washable mat on the inside of the dog door, big enough that the animal has to take at least two steps on it, catches a surprising amount. A second one outside catches more. It is unglamorous and it works better than anything that comes in a bottle, because it addresses the delivery of the problem instead of the symptom on the floor.
What We Can and Cannot Reverse
Ground-in soil, the film holding it, and general dulling come off, and that landing patch usually improves more dramatically than any other part of the house. Claw scoring in the finish improves in appearance but the cuts remain. Finish that has gone white from repeated wetting is moisture inside the coating and no cleaning reaches it. Boards that have cupped stay cupped. Nothing here involves an abrasive or a new coat of stain, and on a dog-door landing area we will tell you honestly if it has gone past what a clean can do.
