A fitting that weeps a cup a day soaks the subfloor under an appliance for months, and the first sign is a board edge that has lifted or a dark line running along the wall. By then the water has been in the wood long enough to be past any surface treatment, and often past the flooring entirely into the framing.
What to Actually Do
Replace rubber washer hoses with braided stainless every five years and write the date on them. Put a drain pan under the water heater and the washer if the room allows it. Pull the machine out once a year and look at the floor behind and under it, which takes ten minutes and is the single most useful floor inspection anybody can do. Brine spills get wiped up immediately, because salt on wood holds moisture against the finish indefinitely and will keep a patch of floor damp long after the spill itself has gone.

That is water damage, and it is past a cleaning. Find and stop the source first, then get a flooring contractor to look at whether those boards can be replaced. Cleaning around it is fine and it will not change anything about that area.
Should there be a wood floor in a utility room at all?
Plenty of houses out here have one and it works fine for decades with the plumbing maintained. If you are replacing that floor anyway, it is a reasonable room to put something waterproof in.
We had a leak that was caught quickly. Should we worry?
Probably not, and give it a few weeks to see. A floor that took a short exposure and dried evenly usually flattens back out over a few weeks of normal conditioning. One that stayed wet under an appliance and dried unevenly is the one that cups and stays cupped, and no cleaning reverses it.
