Owners often hope a cleaning will bring four floors closer together in color. It will not. Each one gets clearer and truer to what it actually is, which sometimes makes the differences slightly more visible. Making rooms match means sanding everything and staining it to a common color, and that is a refinishing job with a real price attached. We do not do it and we will not pretend a cleaning approximates it.
The Thresholds Between Them
Where two floors meet at a doorway there is usually a transition strip, and that strip has typically been walked on, cleaned around, and never properly maintained for decades. It is also where dirt collects most. Getting those clean is fiddly hand work and it does more for how a house reads room to room than any single thing we do to the open floor.
Knowing Which Rooms Are Finished
In houses of this history it is common to find one room where the floor was never finished at all, or where the finish gave out so long ago that the wood has been bare for years. Bare wood cannot be cleaned in the ordinary way, because there is no film to clean and the solution goes straight into the board. Those rooms get identified and left alone, and the honest answer for them is a refinisher.
