Cleaning one properly is slower work and the visible improvement is usually larger.
Density That Varies Board to Board
Old-growth longleaf pine is far denser than anything cut today and it behaves almost like a hardwood. Reclaimed oak from different sources varies widely. In a floor built from mixed material, some boards take a coating differently from their neighbors and some are noticeably softer underfoot. A technician who has not looked closely will treat the whole floor as one thing, which is how a reclaimed floor ends up with a patchy result.
What Was Put On It Originally
Reclaimed floors get finished in every way there is: oil, hardwax, water-based urethane, and occasionally nothing at all beyond a wax. That has to be established before anything is applied, and the only reliable way is a test area left to cure and then looked at. Guessing on a floor made of irreplaceable material is not acceptable, and a coating that will not bond is a considerably worse outcome here than on a builder-grade plank.
Where to Stop
The hardest judgment on an antique floor is knowing what to leave alone. Deep checks, worn areas, and old stains are frequently the character somebody paid for, and taking them out is neither possible for us nor desirable. We clean, and where the floor suits it we apply a water-based protective coat. Sanding and refinishing would take the surface history off entirely, and that is a decision for the owner and a specialist, not for a cleaning crew.

Should a reclaimed floor be coated at all?
It depends what is on it now and how the room gets used. A hardwax-oiled floor generally wants a compatible oil refresher and not a film coating. A urethane-finished one takes a maintenance coat happily. Testing settles it and guessing does not.
There is old paint in some of the nail holes.
Leave it. That is provenance, it is doing no harm, and any attempt to dig it out damages the board around it. The same goes for old stains that have been in the wood since before it was a floor.
The boards are different widths and some are cupped.
Mixed widths are normal for reclaimed material. Cupping is worth looking at, since it may be original to the board or may be a current moisture problem. A straightedge across several boards and a look at what is under the floor usually tells the difference.
How much slower is a reclaimed floor to clean?
Noticeably, because the surface is irregular and every nail hole and check holds something. Expect longer on site for the same area, and expect the visible difference at the end to be larger than on a smooth modern floor.
