Hardwood Floor Cleaning in DeSoto, TX

The baseboards, the stair rail, and the bottom six inches of every door casing are the part of this job people never ask about and always notice afterwards.

There is a particular kind of bad floor cleaning where the floor comes out fine and the room looks worse. The baseboards have a gray tide line halfway up. There is spatter on the door casings. The stair rail has drips on it. That is what happens when a machine is run wet against a wall, and it is entirely avoidable.

DeSoto has a lot of well-appointed houses in the Windmill Hill Estates and Regents Park range where the trim work is a real part of what the room looks like. Protecting it is not a courtesy, it is part of doing the job correctly, and it is worth knowing what to expect.

Why Baseboards Get Damaged at All

Two reasons. Wet cleaning throws solution sideways at the wall, and a floor machine that is not controlled at the edge bumps trim and scuffs the paint. Both are functions of using too much liquid and too much speed. Because our process meters solution onto the floor surface and lifts it straight back, there is very little liquid available to throw in the first place, which removes most of the risk before anyone touches a wall.

The Edge Is Done Differently From the Field

The open middle of a room and the six inches against the baseboard are two different tasks. The field gets the machine. The edge gets worked by hand, along with the corners, the door thresholds, and the awkward strip behind a toilet or beside a cabinet toe-kick. It is slower and it is where the visible quality of the job lives, because the edge is the line your eye follows around a room.

Stairs Are Their Own Job

A wood staircase has a tread, a nosing that projects over the riser, and a riser face that shows every drip. It cannot be done with a floor machine and it should not be done quickly. Treads get worked individually, the nosing gets attention because it is the most worn part of any staircase in the house, and the rail and balusters stay dry. If you have wood stairs, say so when you book so the time is allowed for.

What Trim Damage We Cannot Undo

If a previous cleaning has already swollen the bottom edge of your baseboards or lifted the paint, that is done and it is a painter's job now. We will point it out so you know it was there before we arrived. The same goes for water-marked stair risers. Our part is to not add to it.

Not sure whether your floor needs cleaning or refinishing? There are three tests you can run yourself in about a minute, and they will tell you which one you are dealing with before anyone quotes you.

A wood floor job is judged at the edges, not in the middle of the room.

Hardwood questions from DeSoto homeowners

Do you move furniture away from the walls?

We move what can be moved safely by two people so the perimeter is reachable, then put it back. Built-ins, very heavy pieces, and anything loaded stay where they are and we work up to them.

Will the floor be wet against the baseboards?

No. The whole process is designed around never leaving standing liquid anywhere, and the perimeter is the place where that discipline matters most. It is damp for a few minutes at most and dry to walk on in about half an hour.

Which areas does the DeSoto crew serve?
