When a recoat peels off a wood floor in sheets, the coating is almost never the thing that failed.
Screen and recoat is a legitimate service. A contractor abrades the existing finish, cleans it, and rolls a fresh layer of polyurethane over the top. Done properly on a suitable floor it is excellent value.
Done on a floor that still has contamination on it, it fails, and it fails in a way that is impossible to miss. Sheets lift at the edges, whole patches release under a chair leg, and the floor ends up looking far worse than it did before anybody touched it.

The Three Things That Break Adhesion
Wax, oil soap residue, and silicone from furniture polish and aerosol dusting sprays. Silicone is the worst of the three because it spreads in an invisible film, it survives abrasion, and it repels a coating so effectively that you can see the new finish crawl away from it while it is still wet. That is the fisheye pattern, little circular voids in an otherwise smooth coat, and it is a contamination signature.
Why Screening Does Not Solve It
A screen abrades the top of the finish to give the new coat something to key into. It does not remove what has soaked into the pores and the seams, and it can actually drive contamination further in while grinding it around the floor. Cleaning has to come before abrasion, properly, with recovery, and a lot of jobs skip that step because it takes time and does not look like work.
What Happens Now
Whatever is peeling has to come off before anything else goes on. There is no version of this where a further coat over a failing one holds. Once the floor is back to a sound surface and genuinely clean, our water-based maintenance coat can go on, or you can go back to a refinisher for another polyurethane recoat with much better odds the second time.
