The failure shows at the plank edges in the wet zones — around the dishwasher, at the sink, inside the back door — where the core has taken up water and swollen and the face has begun to separate. Nothing brings a lifted veneer back down. What we can do is clean and protect everything that is still sound, and tell you plainly which boards are past saving.

Trail grit comes home on shoes and paws in serious quantity, and grit under foot pressure is the mechanism that actually wears a finish down. The boards near my dishwasher are lifting at the edges. Can that be fixed?

How do I know which type of floor I have?
