Why Sand Beats Clay Here
The fill used on these sites is sandy, which sounds gentler than heavy clay and is worse for a floor. Clay smears and shows and gets cleaned up because you can see it. Sand is nearly invisible on a light floor, does not smear, and is angular quartz hard enough to abrade a factory finish. The floor that looks clean in a new house is frequently the one taking the most damage.
What to Do About It
Mats at every door including the garage, changed and shaken often. Vacuum considerably more than you think you need to, with a hard-floor head and no beater bar. And clean the floor properly at the end of that first year, once the lot is landscaped and the street is finished, so the accumulated grit comes out and a protective coat goes on before the finish has taken real damage.
The Damage That Sticks
Fine scratching in the coating is normal, improves with cleaning, and largely disappears under a maintenance coat. A traffic lane where grit has taken the finish down to the wood is a different matter, because there is nothing left to bond to and the exposed wood keeps darkening.
