Then measure the wear layer by eye against something known, since a veneer under a millimeter is a floor with a short remaining life and no refinishing option, and that changes what the house is worth to you.
The Four Wet Spots
Under the kitchen sink, in front of the dishwasher, behind the refrigerator, and the utility room. Get a flashlight into each one. Dark boards, a lifted edge, a cupped plank, or a swollen baseboard means water has been there, and water damage under an appliance is one of the few floor problems that is genuinely expensive to fix. A seller is not obliged to volunteer any of this and an inspector may never move the appliance.
Ask Two Questions in Writing
What was the floor cleaned or coated with, and by whom, and is there any manufacturer paperwork. A floor that has been waxed cannot take a modern coating without stripping first. A floor still under a manufacturer warranty may transfer. Neither answer is likely to change your offer and both tell you what your first year of ownership involves.
