Hardwood Floor Cleaning in Justin, TX

There is a fine line of dust along the inside of your front door and it is not coming under the mat. It is coming around the door itself.

Out on this side of Denton County the land is open and the wind has a long run at a house. A sustained south wind for three days puts real pressure on the exterior envelope, and every gap in it becomes a small vent with dust moving through it.

Doors are the weak point. Weatherstripping compresses and takes a set, thresholds wear where the sweep drags, and after a decade the seal that was tight when the house was built is a series of small openings. You cannot see them and you can absolutely see what comes through them.

The result is a thin band of very fine silt on the floor just inside the door, running the width of it, that comes back within a day of being swept.

The Test Anybody Can Run

Close the door on a strip of paper and pull. If it slides out with no resistance, the seal is not making contact at that point. Do it at half a dozen places up the sides and along the bottom. Where the paper slides free, air and dust are moving. On a windy night you can also run a hand slowly round the frame and feel it directly.

Why That Dust Matters More Than It Looks

Prairie silt is mineral. It is not the soft organic dust that comes off fabric and skin, and it does not simply sit there being untidy. It is fine abrasive, and it is landing in the highest-traffic square yard of the house, where every person entering will grind it into the finish. That band inside the front door is why entries wear years ahead of the rooms they open into.

Two Fixes, One of Which Is Ours

Replacing worn weatherstripping and fitting a proper door sweep costs very little and removes the supply. That is the one that actually solves it and it is not something we sell. Ours is the other half: taking off the film and the embedded grit that has already accumulated, and putting a protective coat over the entry so the next few years of it lands on the coat. Doing our half without doing yours means the same conversation in eighteen months.

Not sure whether your floor needs cleaning or refinishing? There are three tests you can run yourself in about a minute, and they will tell you which one you are dealing with before anyone quotes you.

Clean or refinish? Run the three tests →

Test the door seal with a strip of paper this evening. If it pulls out freely, the entry floor is being sandblasted a little every windy day.

Fix the seal, then let us deal with what got in. 940-220-8158, $50 off the first cleaning.

Hardwood questions from Justin homeowners

Would a bigger mat solve it?

It helps with what arrives on shoes and does nothing about what arrives on the wind, and here a real share of it is wind. Mats and door seals are solving two different halves of the same problem, and both are cheap.

The floor by the door is already dull. Can that come back?

If it is grit-loaded film, yes, and often dramatically. If the finish in that band has genuinely been abraded away to bare wood, that part does not come back and the rest of the room will improve around it. We will tell you which one you have before starting.

Which areas does the Justin crew cover?
