Why Drying Fast Makes It Worse

So a hot day, a fan, or a very lightly damp mop that dries in seconds actually deposits more than a slower dry would. This is counterintuitive and it is the reason plain-water cleaning gets worse in summer.
What to Do Instead
Two options. Use a proper no-rinse wood floor cleaner, which contains a small amount of surfactant that keeps the minerals in suspension so they lift off with the moisture instead of being left behind. Or, if you genuinely want water only, use distilled water for floor cleaning, which has no mineral content at all. The second sounds excessive and it does completely solve the problem in a house on very hard water.
