A space heater set on a wood floor for a whole winter will leave a mark, and it is not a burn. It is the wood drying out faster in one square yard than anywhere else in the house.

A roughly semicircular area in front of where the heater sits, a few feet across. Within it, wider board gaps than the surrounding floor and often a slightly different sheen. If you check in July and the gaps in that patch are still wider than elsewhere, the wood has taken a set and it will not fully recover. If they close up in summer with everything else, no permanent harm has been done and you have time to change the arrangement.
The Fixes Are All About Placement
Get the unit off the floor and onto a stand, or at minimum onto a hard non-flammable tray with feet so air moves underneath it. Point it across the room instead of down at the boards. And keep it at a real distance from any wood surface, which the manufacturer's instructions will specify and which almost nobody reads. None of that costs anything and all of it prevents the problem entirely.

The dull finish, the film, and the dirt that has collected in the widened gaps all come off, and that patch usually looks considerably better afterwards. What we cannot do is put moisture back into boards that have dried and set, close a gap, or reverse a scorched finish.
