Why Oil Film Is Worse Than It Sounds
It is sticky, so it holds every particle of dust and grit that lands on it instead of letting it be swept away. That turns the whole floor into a slow-acting abrasive surface that gets walked on. It also refuses to come off with water, because oil and water do not cooperate, which is why mopping an oily floor produces streaks and a floor that goes dull again within days.
The Extractor Is Doing Less Than You Think
A lot of island hoods in this era of building are recirculating hoods, not ducted ones, which means they filter grease through a mesh and put the air straight back into the room. Those filters clog, and once clogged they pass most of what they are meant to catch. Pulling the mesh filters out and washing them in hot water with dish soap every couple of months makes a genuine difference to how fast the floor reloads.
What the Clean Actually Removes
The oil film and everything bound into it, right across the room and not only in the kitchen zone. Expect the area within about eight feet of the range to need more attention, and expect the improvement in the living area to be more noticeable than you predicted, because that is where you did not know there was a problem. What does not come off is anything in the wood: scratches, dents, black staining, and worn-through areas all stay.
