Strawberries, blackberries, and dewberries all carry anthocyanin pigments, which are the same class of compound used to dye fabric. They are not grease and they are not ordinary soil, and they behave differently from either.
Why Fruit Pigment Is Its Own Category
A pigment molecule is small and it is water-soluble, which means it travels wherever the juice travels and then stays behind when the water evaporates. On an intact floor finish there is nothing for it to bind to and it wipes off cleanly. On a floor with a worn finish, an open seam, or a scratch, the juice gets to the wood, and once pigment is inside a cell wall no surface cleaning reaches it. This is why the mark from a crushed berry can be trivial in one room and permanent in another on the same day.
The Color Change That Confuses Everybody
Anthocyanins shift color with acidity. A fresh berry stain looks red or purple, and after a few days on wood it can turn brown, blue, or nearly black depending on what it reacted with. People then describe an old stain as looking nothing like the fruit that made it, and assume it must be something else. It is the same stain and it has simply changed, which also means treating it with an acid or an alkali will change the color again without removing anything.
The First Five Minutes
Blot with a dry cloth first and do not wipe, because wiping spreads a pigment stain in a way it does not spread grease. Then take up the residue with a cloth barely damp with plain water, working from the outside toward the center, and dry the area properly. Do not reach for bleach, and do not use vinegar, since both of those cause their own damage to a floor coating and neither removes what is already in the wood. Speed matters far more than any product.
What Is Already Set Into the Board
Surface pigment and the film around it come off, and the maintenance coat afterward is genuinely protective for a household that handles a lot of fruit, since an intact coat is what stops the next spill from mattering. Pigment that reached the wood is a color change inside the board and it stays. So do gouges, worn-through lanes, dark pet staining, and cupping. Taking a stain out of the wood itself means sanding, and sanding is not something we do.

It can lighten pigment and it will also lighten the wood around it and can damage the finish. On a finished floor it usually trades one visible mark for another.
