Hardwood Floor Cleaning in Santa Fe, TX
Red wine on an intact wood finish is a non-event. Turmeric is the one that will still be there in five years.
There is a folk hierarchy of things people fear spilling on a wood floor, and it is mostly wrong. What matters is not how dark something is. It is whether the pigment is a dye that can migrate into a coating, and whether the finish under it was sound at that moment.
Households across Alta Loma, Arcadia, Algoa, and Centennial Oaks ask about this constantly, usually right after something has already happened.
It is worth knowing the actual order.
The Overrated Ones
Red wine, coffee, and tea look alarming and are largely pigment suspended in liquid, sitting on top of a finish. Cleaned up within a reasonable time they leave nothing. Their danger is entirely about duration and seams: wine that runs into a board joint and sits overnight reaches the wood and reacts with the tannin, and that is the version people remember. On an intact surface, wiped up the same evening, none of the three is a serious threat.
The Genuinely Difficult Ones
Turmeric is the worst thing in a domestic kitchen for a wood floor, because curcumin is a powerful dye that binds to almost anything and it is intensely yellow. Beet juice, strong food coloring, and some fruit juices behave similarly. These do not sit on a finish, they color it, and a stain from any of them can survive a cleaning entirely. Get to them while they are still wet, blot instead of wiping, and do not spread the area.
The Chemical Category
Separate from staining and more damaging. Anything strongly alkaline, anything acidic, and any solvent attacks the coating itself instead of coloring it. Oven cleaner, drain cleaner, undiluted vinegar left standing, acetone, and hand sanitizer all belong here. The result is not a stain, it is a dulled or etched patch, and no cleaning restores a coating that has been chemically damaged.
Not sure whether your floor needs cleaning or refinishing? There are three tests you can run yourself in about a minute, and they will tell you which one you are dealing with before anyone quotes you.

Hardwood questions from Santa Fe homeowners
Something dyed the floor yellow and nothing shifts it.
Very likely turmeric or a food coloring, and if it has bound into the coating it is there until the coating is removed. That is refinishing, which we do not do. A maintenance coat over the top slightly reduces how much it reads and does not hide it.
Is a darker floor safer from staining?
It hides more, which is not the same as being safer. The damage happens at the same rate and you see less of it, which occasionally means it goes unnoticed for longer.
Do the stain-removing tricks online work?
Hydrogen peroxide, bleach, and oxalic acid all work on bare wood, which means the finish has to come off first. Applying any of them to a finished floor damages the coating and leaves a light patch. Nobody should try this on a floor they care about.
What is the honest expectation from a cleaning?
Everything sitting on the surface comes off, which is far more than people expect. Anything that has gone into the coating or into the wood stays, and our technician will point out which is which before starting.
