Hardwood Floor Cleaning in Somerset, TX

We look at the weather before a Somerset appointment, and it is not because of the drive.

Everything about how a floor coating dries and hardens depends on the air it is drying into. Temperature and relative humidity change how fast water leaves a water-based product and how well the film that is left behind knits together.

Most customers have never been told this, which is why an appointment that gets moved sounds like an inconvenience instead of what it actually is.

The Conditions a Maintenance Coat Wants

Somewhere between sixty and eighty degrees with relative humidity in the forty to sixty percent range is comfortable for the product and for the floor. Push the humidity up toward eighty and drying slows down considerably, which means a longer wait before the room is usable and a softer film for longer. Push it down into the teens on a dry windy February day and the surface can skin over before the layer underneath has released its water, which is worse. Neither extreme ruins a job and both change the timing.

Why an Indoor Job Cares About Outdoor Weather

Because the house is not airtight and the system is not running while a door is open for a hose. On a humid August afternoon in south Bexar County, indoor humidity climbs quickly once a crew is going in and out, and on a rainy day it climbs faster. The fix is not complicated: run the air conditioning, keep the doors closed as much as the work allows, and put a fan on the room afterward. We do all three as a matter of course and we will ask you to leave the system running after we go.

When We Will Ask to Move an Appointment

A hard freeze with no heat in the house, a day when the power is out, or a house with no functioning air conditioning in July are all reasons to reschedule, and we would sooner call you two days out than turn up and do compromised work. It happens a handful of times a year. Nobody enjoys the phone call and everybody prefers it to a floor that took three days to become usable.

What the Weather Has Nothing to Do With

None of this changes what a cleaning can achieve. A floor with gouges into the wood, a lane worn to bare board, dark staining from a leak or a pet, splits, or cupping will be exactly the same on a perfect seventy-degree day as on a wet one. No part of our service involves abrading a floor or applying stain, so a floor needing that is a refinishing job regardless of the forecast, and we will tell you so at the estimate.

Not sure whether your floor needs cleaning or refinishing? There are three tests you can run yourself in about a minute, and they will tell you which one you are dealing with before anyone quotes you.

Clean or refinish? Run the three tests →

Leave your air conditioning running the evening after any floor work. It is the one thing you can do that genuinely affects the result.

Hardwood questions from Somerset homeowners

Can you work in the rain?

Yes, most of the time, with the house closed up and the system running. It is heavy sustained humidity that causes trouble, not the fact of rain.

Should we open the windows afterward to speed drying?

In south Texas, almost never. Outdoor air is usually more humid than the conditioned air inside, so opening up slows the process down.

What is the best season to book?

Late fall and spring are the easiest conditions and also the busiest. Winter is genuinely fine and easier to schedule.

How long before the coat is fully hard?

Walkable inside the hour and fully hardened in about twenty-four, longer if the house is running humid. Rugs go back after that.
