Hardwood Floor Cleaning in Annetta South, TX
There is a ring of damaged floor around your kitchen island about three feet out, and four bar stools put it there.
Every house built in Rivercreek Ranch and Aledo Country Estates in the last twenty years has the same kitchen layout: a large island, three or four stools along one side, and wood running underneath the whole thing.
That island is where breakfast happens, where homework happens, and where people stand and talk. It concentrates more sitting, standing, scraping, and dropping into a small area than anywhere else in the house.
Why Stools Do More Damage Than Chairs
They are heavier, they have a smaller footprint, and they get dragged instead of lifted, because they are awkward to pick up. A dining chair gets moved twice a day. A bar stool at a busy island gets moved dozens of times, always in the same arc, and always by somebody with their hands full. That produces a curved band of scratching at exactly the radius the stool travels, which is why the damage on these floors reads as a semicircle.
Metal Glides Are the Worst Version
A lot of the popular stool designs use bare metal feet or a hard plastic glide. Both are harder than a floor finish. The nail-in felt pads that come with furniture wear through in a year of that kind of use and then present a metal nail head to the floor, which cuts into a floor where a felt pad would only have scuffed it. If you have four stools and you have not looked at the bottom of them in two years, that is a ten-minute job worth doing tonight.
The Other Half Is Food
The area under an island collects everything that misses the counter. Cooking oil in aerosol form settles there, coffee and juice land there, and crumbs get ground in underfoot. That is a genuine film, it goes tacky, and it holds the grit that then gets dragged around by the stools. Cleaning takes all of it off, and the maintenance coat then carries the next year of scraping instead of the finish underneath.
Not sure whether your floor needs cleaning or refinishing? There are three tests you can run yourself in about a minute, and they will tell you which one you are dealing with before anyone quotes you.

Hardwood questions from Annetta South homeowners
What should we put on the stool feet?
Thick self-adhesive felt is the usual answer and it needs replacing annually at that usage. Some people go to a slip-on cup with a felt base, which lasts longer and looks worse. Either beats what is on there now.
Can you get the scratch ring out?
The fine surface scratching in the coating largely disappears once the floor is cleaned and coated, because the light stops catching in it. Anything that has cut into the wood itself stays. We do not sand or refinish, and on a scratch ring that is usually not the answer anyway.
Is it worth doing just the kitchen?
It is a common request and it works, with one caveat. A cleaned kitchen next to an uncleaned family room shows a line at the transition. In an open plan, which most of these houses are, that line can be more obvious than the original problem.
The island has a rug under it. Does that help?
It protects the wood and it creates a different problem, because a rug under stools gets ground into by the same feet and then holds grit against the floor. If you use one, take it out and shake it far more often than feels necessary, and lift it entirely a couple of times a year to see what is underneath.
How long does a kitchen take?
A couple of hours at most, and it is walkable well inside the hour after that.
