Liquid Applications Are Chemical
Sprayed herbicide, insecticide, and liquid feed leave a film on the grass blade that stays active for a day or more, which is the point of them. Somebody crossing that lawn transfers a little onto a shoe sole and then onto a floor finish. Most of these are mildly alkaline, some contain surfactants and solvents to help them stick, and none of them were formulated with a urethane coating in mind. Repeated over seasons this is a slow dulling agent.
The Rule That Handles Both
Whatever the service leaves on the door hanger about keeping children and pets off for a set number of hours applies to shoes and floors too. Take shoes off at the door for the day or two after an application. If there is a dog that goes out on the treated lawn, wipe the paws. It costs nothing and it eliminates almost the entire issue, and it is far easier than trying to clean the consequences up afterward.
What Cleaning Reverses
Deposit, film, and the soil bound up in it all come off, and a water-based protective coat gives the finish a renewable layer to take the next season. Fine scratching in the coating improves considerably. What does not come back is a lane where the finish has been abraded through to bare wood, a gouge you can catch a nail in, or dark staining that reached the board. Sanding and refinishing are a separate trade and not something we take on.
